ポートランドで一番人気のフードカート、Nong's khao Man Gai
フードカートが有名なポートランド。その中でも一際有名なのがNong's khao Man Gaiです。SEにはレストランもありますが、やっぱりDowntownのフードカートで買うのがおすすめ。
スープもついて$8.75と、他のカートだと平均$6くらいなので学生の友人は高い！と嘆いてましたが、店員さんから暖かい袋を受け取って開くとジャスミンライスとパクチーの香りが食欲をそそり、大きな鶏もも肉がどかんと入っているのでボリューム的には申し分ないでしょう。買うたびに鶏の部位が違うのか、あたりとはずれがある(?)のも面白いところ。

留学中はできるだけ新しいお店を開拓したくて同じ店には行かないようにしていたのですが、ここに関しては我慢できずに２回いきました。過去にレストランに行った時は普通のお店で特別感は感じられず。「フードカートなのに美味しい」というスパイスが重要なのかもしれません。（出てくるのも早いしね）
ここのカオマンガイの何がそんなに中毒性を生むのか、それは自家製のソースにあります。ソースはフードカートやレストランで販売もしており、たしか1瓶$12ほど。ホールフーズなどにも置いてあるみたいです。これがあるだけでいつでもNong's khao Man Gaiの味を再現できるのでお土産にもおすすめです。
帰国後、オフィシャルサイトのレシピを参考にして鶏をまるごと使ったカオマンガイを作りました。動画のキャプションに詳細レシピを載せてあるのでぜひ参考に作ってみてください〜。

Chicken rice with soup is $8.75. The average cost of food cart is about $6, so it’s too expensive for my friend who is student. But it’s so delicious and big lunch. I think you must be satisfied.
